Charity Shop Challenge..

9 Mar

Fashion doesn’t usually feature on this blog, but I’m so happy about this I feel I need to share it….

I’ve always been super snobby about charity shops. I could never pluck up the courage to actually go in – just in case someone who knew me saw me on the way out. Plus, I just thought they were full of old tat – stuff that people didn’t want and wasn’t worth sticking on ebay.

Then, a couple of weeks back my mum was invited to a charity shop challenge dinner party – I have no concrete idea what this is, something to spice up the 400th dinner party of the year possibly. She forced me into the shop, literally against my will. But as I looked round I noticed all the perfectly good clothes, bags, shoes etc.

I purchased a whole bunch of stuff, oversized 100% cotton jumpers, virtually brand new Converse for £5.00, a ‘still in the box’ cupcake stand and a big black bag. I guessed it probably wasn’t leather but for £6.00 how can you go wrong? When I got home I googled the brand on the label.. “lucky brand”. To my absolute delight it was still on their website, and for a staggering £178.00! I couldn’t believe it, still in perfect nic, no scratches and  £172.00 cheaper than the original price.

So now, I’m going in every charity shop, I ever see, every week. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll find some Louboutins that somebody forgot about!

Veet & Lisa Snowdon search for Britain’s Greatest Legs

24 Feb
With spring-like temperatures yesterday, Veet turned the streets of London into a Spring/Summer catwalk with a parade of 100 girls led by Veet ambassador Lisa Snowdon, to launch their search for Britains Greatest Legs.

Veet and top model Lisa Snowdon, are on the hunt for a fantastic pair of legs to appear in the next Veet campaign. The traffic-stopping march of leggy ambassadors ran along the Thames to Somerset House where the competition for Britain’s Greatest Legs opens at Vodafone London Fashion Weekend.

Visitors to Fashion Weekend can enter the competition by visiting the Veet stand and having their entry photo taken by a professional photographer. Entry is also now open to the nation via Veet’s facebook page http://www.facebook/veetuk - simply upload a picture of you (showing off your pins) and get as many of your friends and family to like the picture!

With the Spring season marking the first wax of the year for many, Lisa and the girls were showing off the salon-smooth results of new Veet EasyWax self-heating home waxing system, which I reviewed just before Christmas. With beautifully smooth legs now so simple to achieve, the Britain’s Greatest Legs title could be anyones!

Veet EasyWax RRP £29.99 available nationwide. Visit http://www.facebook/veetuk for more information.

Bellapierre Lip Plumping

9 Dec

I’m cursed with a thin lip…it’s my Father’s fault. My sisters have my mother’s lovely full lips and a beautifully pouty bottom lip. I have no idea why they look so full in the pictures below. Obviously I am pouting a bit to apply the gloss but they do look much fuller than usual – this is perhaps testimony to the product.

Anyway, my thin lips usually mean that I can’t wear lipstick. It just looks wrong. I do favour a lip-gloss or balm, but hate that awkward windy-hair-stuck to lip thing that always happens. However  for this product I am willing to risk it. This is a lip plumping gloss from Bella Pierre, I haven’t used their products before I certainly will be now. This gorgeous gloss is bubblegum flavour gorgeously glossy. Plus, it obviously makes my lips appear much fuller than they really are!

Below are pictures of two different colours – there’s not a great deal of colour to it but I think that’s why I like them so much. They’re lovely subtle and not too obvious. Big up Bella Pierre – “Handbag-Status” is yours!

Winter essential..

8 Dec

I think everybody’s lips get a bit gross at this time year. The cold weather obviously doesn’t help. Each year I have a different lip-saver, and this year it’s Blistex’s Lip Brilliance. It’s gorgeously silky soft, contains Vitamin E, Silk Extracts and Grape seed oil and instantly moisturises your lips. It doesn’t just sit on top of the chapped skin – you know the feeling when you put lip gloss on top of sore lips and it doesn’t soak in….ewww gross.

It also adds a really nice colour to the lip, a very subtle “rosy glow”, I think it has a hint of glitter or something too because it gives a sheen like appearance.

So this product makes it into the winter essentials list and even gets “handbag status” – coming with me wherever I go.

Lytess Leggings…

8 Dec

The Claim: Reduce your thighs and hips in 18 days.

The reality:

So, these leggings are pretty expensive, RRP £50.00, and the manufactures claim “independent clinical tests showing up to -5.5cm from the hips and -3.1cm from the thighs”.

Too good to be true right? But here is the catch. You have to wear them 8 hours a day, six days straight. Ermm hello? That’s fucking impossible. It’s a massive commitment to wash and dry them, ready for the next day. Plus you basically look like you’re wearing the same outfit for three weeks. Well, I stuck with it, and it was bloody hard work. Anyway, the results were minimal an inch or so overall basically.

I have seen on other reviews that people had some great results, so don’t totally rule them out. Also, they work really nicely as sort of ‘control leggings’ – smoothing out muffin tops and giving you a generally nice shape. If you’re going to invest, then prepare to commit for any real results.

Rudolph the red nose reindeer…

8 Dec

So this the problem. I’ve got a broken capillary at the end of my nose….and it’s getting bigger. At first you could barely notice it. But  now it’s earned me the nickname Rudolph….which of course I’m fucking delighted with. I’ve had it for about 8 months, as far as I can remember and I’m really at the end of my tether with it.

The worst is when people talk to it…. at least it’s not a spot though I guess. But I swear people think I’m an effing lush. Which I’m not.  So far I’ve tried well…..everything. And nothing has worked. It’s barely coverable with foundation or concealer, (you can always see it through) plus it’s in a place that I constantly touch – without realising – so the coverage disappears straight away.

I have been using Skin Doctors Capillary Clear for the last couple of months, but unfortunately I haven’t seen any results – in fact it has just got worse.

So if anyone has any suggestions please just let me know. I’m willing to try anything!

Eye Dew, Eye Dew, Eye Dew-ew….

8 Dec

I never though my vanity could be taken to this level…but I’m now totally obsessed with a product that brightens the whites of my eyes. Yep, it’s gone to that level.

Eye dew dazzling drops are bright blue and contain a clever ingredient to brighten the whites of your eyes, plus are suitable for eyes of any colour. It’s hard to explain how good this product is, it’s like when you get a new computer and using it makes you realise how shit your old one was. It’s a problem you never really knew you had but once you’ve tried this product you’ll realise how essential it is.

I’ve also been using Murine’s Bright & Moist eyes. They have a similar function but in my opinion don’t match up to Eyedew’s Dazzling Drops. Murine’s drops certainly help to keep your eyes moisturised, but the whitening effect is no where near as strong as Eyedew’s.

P.S – How amaze is this old eyedew ad?
